BLUE GOOSE
WENT TO THE EASTER EGG ROLL 2008 ALONG WITH RED HEN, YELLOW CHICK, AND WHITE DUCK.
WHAT A JOB THEY DID!!!
From Publishers Weekly: (Starred Review)
“Farmer Gray’s homestead is as colorless as his name—even the sky and grass are gray. So, while he’s away for the day, Blue Goose, Red Hen, Yellow Chick and White Duck get some paint and undertake a barnyard makeover. First they cover a few things in their signature colors—and what they redecorate can be surprising: “White Duck painted the fence white. And Yellow Chick painted all the flowers yellow.” Next the animals mix the different colors (e.g., yellow and blue make green for the grass.) With a little teamwork, they’re even able to paint the sun yellow (this image requires vertical format so readers can fully savor the effort involved). Tafuri’s (The Busy Little Squirrel) animal cast is creative, confident and diligent—there are no pratfalls into paint cans, no falling off of ladders. But the veteran author is more visually playful here than usual: the scenes have the bold, graphic punch of murals. As always, her generously sized animals and pithy text extend a warm welcome to readers, and make this celebration of color ideal for sharing either one-on-one or with a group.”
Excerpt from BLUE GOOSE –
“It’s finished,” shouted Blue Goose,
Red Hen, Yellow Chick,
and White Duck.
The barnyard was filled with color.
They were ready to say –
“SURPRISE!”
to their Farmer Gray.
The Busy Little Squirrel
The leaves were falling.
The air is cold.
Squirrel needs to get ready for winter.
He cannot nibble with the mice.
He does not have time to hop with the frogs
or run with the dogs.
But there is one thing he can do.
Whose Chick Are You?
A chick hatches out of its egg, but who does it belong to?
No one seems to know–not Goose (Honk), not Duck (Quack),
not Hen (Cluck), not Bird (Chirp).
Not even Little Chick (croo? croo?)
But Little Chick’s parents know, and sharp observers
will delight in noting–they’ve been swimming nearby
all along.
Five Little Chicks
This little chick went to the garden.
This little chick found a worm.
This little chick eyed a berry.
And this little chick gave a squirm!
With counting, fun, and vibrant illustrations, acclaimed storyteller Nancy Tafuri brings the
farmyard to life.
Mamas and little ones everywhere will cherish all the
special moments of these little chicks for years to come.
